Nodland Cellars 2013 Private Blend Red Wine, Walla Walla Valley, $32
By Great Northwest Wine on March 25, 2018
Spokane winemaking attorney Tim Nodland draws from Pepper Bridge and Seven Hills vineyard, two of the Walla Walla Valley’s premier sites and both under the jurisdiction of Norm McKibben, for a Left Bank Bordeaux-style blend that includes the main six varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon (49%), Merlot (16%), Cabernet Franc (11%), Malbec (8%), Carménère (8%) and Petit Verdot. There’s maturity from start to finish as aromas of dried currant and cherry include cinnamon, cola and herbs. The palate shows richness and complexity as resolved tannins make for flavors of cassis, chocolate-covered cherry and raspberry, backed by a dusty finish of baking spices.
