Novelty Hill Winery 2014 Cascadia Red Wine, Columbia Valley, $50
By Great Northwest Wine on March 25, 2018
Mike Januik, one of the most decorated alums from “the University of Ste. Michelle,” produces this well-crafted Left Bank-style red for Tom Alberg at their tony Woodinville winery and tasting room. It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (52%) from young Quintessence Vineyard on Red Mountain with Alberg-owned Merlot (46%) and Malbec off his Stillwater Creek site. Aromas of cinnamon bark, dusty cherry and blueberry lead to a juicy and balanced drink of plums and black currant. Pleasing tannins and sweet herbs add complexity to the long finish of black cherry.
