Coach House Cellars 2013 Syrah, Columbia Valley, $25
Scott Greer’s Sheridan Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills has entered its third decade of life, and Coach House Cellars in Bellingham, Wash., continues to pay homage to Syrah with this four-barrel program. In fact, their work here seems reminiscent of the Sheridan Vineyard Singularity, a gamy, spicy, savory and big Côte Rôtie-style. There’s plenty of black fruit to go along with the black pepper, black olive and bacon fat. Boysenberry pie acidity, resolved tannins and a black cherry finish make it as enjoyable as it is fascinating.
