College Cellars grad Brad Binko moved into 20-year-old Patina Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley along Morrison Lane for his latest release of Port-style wine, a single-barrel lot which spent a year in new French oak after the mutage with brandy from his 2015 lees. This sommelier from the East Coast presents it drier than many fortified wines (2.6% residual sugar), and yet there’s plenty of appeal to the hints of plum, elderberry, whiff of smoke and baking spice. A touch of tannin mingles with the late-arriving poke of alcohol, making for a dangerous finish.
