Woodinville vintners Bob Bullock adjusted his vineyard sources for his 2014 Reserve Cab, and the results from Dineen Vineyard in the Yakima Valley are understandably expressive. Dark and spicy aromas of plum, black cherry, clove, menthol and hazelnut lead to a nicely balanced and rich flavor profile of cherries and bittersweet chocolate. Ripe blackberry takes on the midpalate, riding into a long finish of fine-grained tannins and a lick of cinnamon bark. Our panel’s enjoyment of this wine synced up with that at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, which awarded this a double gold earlier this year. It was one of four gold medals that Bullock’s red program brought back from nation’s largest judging of American wine.
