Primarius Winery 2016 Pinot Gris, Oregon, $14
By Great Northwest Wine on July 27, 2018
Best Buy! Sarah Cabot grew up in Seattle and trained at South Seattle Community College’s Northwest Wine Academy, but her first jobs in Oregon were at Belle Pente and Omero Cellars. Each winery has earned a reputation for work with Pinot Gris, so Cabot’s impressive work with this versatile variety for Precept’s Primarius brand comes as no surprise. Perfumy and bright notes of honeydew melon, kiwi and apricot pie lead to tropical – yet energetic — flavors of papaya, mango and lychee. There’s essentially no perceptible sweetness (0.3% residual sugar), and the farewell provided by white peach skin adds to the grapes natural food-friendly nature.
