Ponzi Vineyards 2016 Chardonnay, Willamette Valley, $22

By on August 1, 2018

ponzi vineyards chardonnay 2016 bottle - Ponzi Vineyards 2016 Chardonnay, Willamette Valley, $22Chardonnay remains a focus for Luisa Ponzi and her family, who produce four styles of Chardonnay each vintage. This is their flagship bottling, and she works with their Estate Vineyard and Dion Vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains. Of particular interest here is the old vine clone 108, and the approach stays to true to the fruit with no oak involvement. That results in bright aromas and flavors of Bosc pear, lemon and Golden Delicious apple. Enjoyable crispness surrounds the touch of creaminess on the midpalate, setting the table for a juicy finish that allows for a nice fleck of minerality. The combination makes this broadly appealing and screams for scallops. This Chardonnay is available through the Ponzi Vineyards website, the Sherwood tasting and retail locations.
