The Bickford family’s century farm in Hood River, Ore., produces 70 percent of its award-winning wine program in the Hood River Valley, and hometown product Rich Cushman continues to rank among the Pacific Northwest winemaking elite with cool-climate varieties. He produces two styles of Riesling for Mt. Hood, including this classic, unmistakable expression of the noble German grape. Aromas of Gala apple, pear, honey and lemon-lime mingle with a palate that mirrors the fragrance. Bold acidity easily balances the listed 3% residual sugar for a lingering apricot finish. It merited an unanimous gold medal — a double gold — and was one of six golds earned at the 2018 Cascadia International Wine Competition by Mt. Hood Winery, which continues to validate the recognition by Wine Press Northwest magazine as its 2016 Oregon Winery of the Year. Suggested pairings include grilled ahi or Vietnamese spring rolls.
