Alexana Winery 2016 Revana Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills, $49
Texas cardiologist Madaiah Revana’s pursuit of Pinot Noir continues to flourish and mature in Oregon’s Dundee Hills, and his flagship Pinot Noir represents an overview his 46 acres in vineyard. So this spans 18 soil types and 10 clones, which include the historical Coury clone and La Tâche, the latter with a heritage tied to the Grand Cru vineyard in Cote de Nuits. Alexana winemaker Bryan Weil turned this into an attractive and dark example of Pinot Noir leading with black cherry milkshake and toasted marshmallow tones. There’s a creaminess to the texture of plum-skin tannins that are substantial yet nicely integrated, backed by raspberry acidity, brown sugar and baking spice.
