Canoe Ridge Vineyard 2017 The Explorer Rosé, Horse Heaven Hills, $16
By Great Northwest Wine on December 16, 2018
This Walla Walla winery is bullish on this category, now producing two styles of rosé with the launch of The Explorer, which takes a Provence approach with Syrah and Grenache not from its Canoe Ridge Vineyard in Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills but sister site Alder Ridge a few miles downstream on the Columbia River. The Sept. 30 harvest spent three months in stainless steel and it’s finish bone-dry, a theme that’s hinted at by the light salmon color. Enticing aromas of cherry marshmallow and rose petal lead to brisk flavors of pink strawberry, kumquat and light lemon.
