Viticulturist/winemaker Matt Compton continues his delectable work with Burgundy varieties, and he’s turned this clone 108 Chardonnay from Hoot and Howl Vineyard near Mary’s Peak in the Coastal Range into a star. It spent four months in a program of 40% new French oak, and that deft touch shows in aromas and flavors of Asian pear, cantaloupe and marshmallow. Brilliant lemony acidity adds food-friendly balance to the slightly rounded midpalate, making for a long and fantastic finish.
