King Estate 2014 Hyland Vineyard Pinot Noir, McMinnville $55

The King family and their winemakers have been working with this historic site near McMinnville, Ore., since 1992, and Brent Stone took the winery’s 12th standalone bottling of Hyland Vineyard across the finish line with elegance. It spent 12 months in 20% new French oak, making for a lighter style Pinot Noir that’s sublime and suave. The nose of caramel, raspberry and coconut transition to a structure of Rainier cherry, raspberry and cocoa powder, a combination that bodes well for turkey or Duck Confit. As part of the Tower Club at King Estate, members receive first crack at the vineyard-designate wines prior to their arrival at the tasting room and restaurant.
