There’s a taste for Burgundy at Bayernmoor Cellars, evidenced by their young plantings of Dijon clone Pinot Noir north of Woodinville near Stanwood, Wash., but they work with storied winemaker Brian Carter and two historic vineyards for their Chardonnay program at this stage. A blend of fruit from Weinbau on the Wahluke Slope and Otis Vineyard in the Yakima Valley spent 10 months in French oak for this reserve-style approach, starting with ginger biscuit, lemon and toast. It’s nicely balanced with Bosc pear, lemon chiffon and a bit more toastiness than butter on the midpalate, yielding to a citrusy and fresh finish.
