Buty Winery 2015 Phinny Hill Vineyard Columbia Rediviva Red Wine, Horse Heaven Hills, $50
By Great Northwest Wine on May 4, 2019

The house of Buty in Walla Walla long has been at the forefront of blending Cabernet Sauvignon with Syrah, and pixie dust from Phinny Hill in Horse Heaven Hills makes for magic once again. Legally, it could be labeled as Cab (83%), but the influence Syrah (17%) is unmistakable. Chris Dowsett’s use of Taransaud barrels for 20 months, nearly half of them new, doesn’t get in the way of the blackberry, black cherry and baking spice tones. The chalkboard dust of the Horse Heavens sifts in, and the fleshy touch of Syrah adds tremendous depth and mouth feel to the age-worthy tannins.
