In 1995, New Jersey native Matt Compton was a student at Oregon State University when he received instruction on how to graft grapevines. The setting was Woodhall Vineyard near Alpine. His connection with that site continues to run deep, and this vintage marked the 40th anniversary of the 6-acre Woodhall Vineyard, which reaches 700 feet in elevation. These four barrels are remarkably perfrumy with clove and nutmeg leading into dried blueberry. Its reputation as a warm site shows with ripe flavors of black cherry and blueberry, backed by pomegranate acidity, mint and a long finish of cherry candy.
