Double Canyon 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven Hills, $25

By on May 12, 2019

The flagship wine for Double Canyon reflects the increased investment by Napa-based Crimson Wine Group in its young brand based in Washington state’s Columbia Basin. While winemaker Katy Michaud cut her teeth in California’s Santa Cruz Mountains, her first job in Washington more than a decade ago focused her attention on Horse Heaven Hills fruit. This blend draws from not only the estate Double Canyon Vineyard, but also stellar sites Phinny Hill, Destiny Ridge and historic Alder Ridge. Enticing aromas of dusty blue fruit, strawberry-rhubarb compote, ground savory and dried porcini mushroom lead to concentrated and enjoyable flavors of dark cherry, plum and toasted oak. Integrated and velvety blueberry skin tannins are capped by a lingering blackcurrant finish.
