Nina Buty has stayed true to Chardonnay from historic Conner Lee Vineyard since her inaugural vintage of 2000, and her current release with winemaking Chris Dowsett reflects their modest style. It hails from two blocks, including a 1989 planting, and by the time their three separate picks were brought in, it was Sept. 26. That’s 19 days beyond the historically hot 2015 vintage. Fermentation took place in concrete for 32% of the lots, with Burgundy barrels accounting for the rest, but just 11% of that wood was new. Mouthwatering aromas start with hints of lemonade-leaning Arnold Palmer, joined by fresh mint and a dusting of facial powder. Inside, there’s enjoyable toast along the lines of kettle corn that’s joined by Bosc pear to create a balanced mouth feel that leads out with a vibrant finish of lemon/lime.
