Barrister Winery 2015 Merlot, Walla Walla Valley, $33
By Great Northwest Wine on August 31, 2019

These Spokane attorneys have been reaching into Dwelley Vineyard for more than a decade, and their bottling of Merlot spotlights this site in the Blue Mountain foothills east of downtown Walla Walla. It’s a dark, dense and hedonistic approach as black plums and black cherry swirl within layers of molasses and dark toast. Nicely managed tannins, no minor achievement with Washington Merlot, allow for some savory green olive to emerge just behind vanilla bean.
