Oregon State University grad Danny Gordon joined Tamarack Cellars founder Ron Coleman in 1999, so the timing of this Emerald Release lines up with his 20th anniversary of working at Tamarack. The gemstone for a 20th anniversary is the emerald, and this background of this special release goes beyond the etched bottle. It is the product of four vineyard-designate reserve programs – Ciel du Cheval, Sagemoor, Seven Hills and Tapteil. Gordon developed the blend after each lot spent 24 months on its own. The melange is one of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Petit Verdot, and the results are remarkable. Aromas of blackcurrant, toasted coconut, violets and moist clay lead to a yummy profile of black cherry and milk chocolate with blueberry acidity and fine-grained tannins akin to espresso grounds. There’s remarkable balance from the opening to a lingering finish cherry and vanilla bean.
