Sagelands Vineyard 2017 Pinot Gris, Columbia Valley, $11

Best Buy! One of Washington state’s longest-lived brands – bonded in 1984 – pulls from some well-established vineyards in the Yakima Valley such as Willow Crest and Canyon Vineyard Ranch for its Pinot Gris program. The 2017 vintage marked the first year for Cesar Cuellar, longtime assistant winemaker for Waterbrook, as the head winemaker for Sagelands, and he immediately hit the mark with this bottling. This is all about orchard fruit and citrus as layered aromas of lime, Granny Smith apple and lemongrass lead to a crisp approach of Asian pear, fresh-squeezed lime and starfruit, backed by yellow grapefruit pith. Look for this brand at select Total Wine & More outlets.
