Wind Rose Cellars 2015 Lonesome Springs Ranch Malbec, Yakima Valley, $25
By Great Northwest Wine on September 7, 2019

One of the Yakima Valley’s most important vineyards works with Olympic Peninsula winemaker David Volmut for this expression of Malbec, a red Bordeaux grape that is becoming one of Washington’s most exciting varieties. The addition of Cabernet Sauvignon (21%) and 20 months in French oak, help create a nose of red currant, raspberry, dried strawberry and sagebrush. The Malbec streams across the palate with blueberry and sweet cherry juice, backed by elderberry jam and white pepper. Suggested pairings include grilled meats and kabobs.
