While part of his Small World Wine Co., umbrella, this reserve tier is the namesake brand for winemaker/grower Matt Compton. He’s been working with vineyards around Corvallis, Ore., since arriving from New Jersey two decades ago. The vines he work with on his Llewellyn project are more than 30 years old from coastal foothills of Mary’s Peak and a blend of Pommard, Wädenswil and Dijon 115 clones. After 18 months in French oak, it offers aromas of pie cherry, river rock and Marionberry, which carry through to the palate. The structure is rounded and long, finishing enjoyable oak spice and Western serviceberry pie.
