Primarius Winery 2015 Reserve Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, $21
By Great Northwest Wine on January 20, 2020

Year after year, jazz vocalist-turned-winemaker Sarah Cabot produces some of Oregon’s most nicely priced Pinot Noir under Precept Wine’s Primarius label. She held back some of her best lots for this reserve bottling from her second commercial vintage for Precept. Estate plantings Waldo Hills (41%), Yamhela (13%) and Battle Creek (12%) form the baseline, and there’s a sense of Burgundy in the nose with an opening earthiness that leads to cocoa powder and dried cherry. The supple approach of blackcurrant and blueberry flavors leads to a pleasing finish of cola and plum.
