Mark Ryan McNeilly celebrated the 20th anniversary of his semi-eponymous winery by cracking the Wine Spectator Top 100 at No. 45 with his Cab-leaning 2016 The Dissent. There is remarkable pedigree to that blend, and his focus with this Lonely Heart Cab is tied to venerable Klipsun Vineyard. Behind the dark plum, Marionberry and fresh-cut herbs in the nose is a hint of chocolate from the 21-month program of 88% new French oak. There’s a ton of rich dark blue fruit akin to black cherry and more plum as soft, fine-grained tannins make for a medium-long finish that keeps the focus on the fruit and the classy structure of an age-worthy Cab off Red Mountain.
