Panther Creek Cellars 2017 Chardonnay, Willamette Valley, $45
By Great Northwest Wine on February 16, 2020

This storied Oregon brand closed its Willamette Valley tasting room not long after this harvest ended, but Tony Rynders continues to craft these wines that have been poured in Woodinville since 2018. His lingerie approach with oak, a charming veil of 20% new French barrels, creates a mood of light toast, cotton candy, dusty Bosc pear and white peach. The entry of apricot, followed by a lemon bar on the midpalate, leads out to a gorgeously bright and long finish of Asian pear. It’s nicely put together and seems ideal with steamed mussels and a loaf of crusty bread.
