Pendulum Winery 2016 Red Wine, Columbia Valley, $19

Waterbrook head winemaker John Freeman oversees this program for Precept Wine, and the big brother of this wine — the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon — landed on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List. The blend of Merlot (62%), Syrah (26%) and Malbec is delicious as well. That’s no surprise considering the array of vineyards sourced, which includes Pepper Bridge, Seven Hills, Taylor Mag and Sagemoor. Enticing aromas of Mexican chocolate, cherry liqueur and butter rum are matched on the palate, backed by well-managed cherry-skin tannins and a finishing touch of vanilla. It twice earned this rating from our panels, including a gold medal at the 2019 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition. There is no tasting room for the these wines, but Pendulum can be found at Fred Meyer, Safeway and QFC markets in the Pacific Northwest.
