Seven Hills Winery 2016 Seven Hills Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley, $50

Founding winemaker Casey McClellan continues a remarkable history with this wine, crafted using Cabernet Sauvignon from blocks established in 1980 by his father, Dr. James McClellan. While this marks the first vintage since the McClellan family sold to Napa-based Crimson Wine Group, this bottle reflects the 29th vintage for Casey producing Cab from the winery’s famous namesake vineyard. It carries classic features and is crafted for the long haul. Aromas of cassis, cordial cherry, fresh dill and maduro cigar wrapper lead to flavors of ripe blueberry and black cherry with taut, age-worthy tannins and finish of Baker’s chocolate. Crimson refreshed the winery branding just a bit in time for use on this bottling.
