A growing number of Oregon producers are reaching into Walla Walla Valley vineyards for their big red programs, and Summit View Vineyard near Milton-Freewater is growing in prominence, a Cab-dominated planting flanked by historic Seven Hills Vineyard. Joleté, a sister label for Le Cadeau Vineyard and owner Tom Mortimer near Newberg, Ore., this Cab offers an array of entry points, starting with aromas of dark cherry, blueberry, light toast and a nice herbal note. There’s brightness and a medium-plus tannins that are capped by chai spices and a beautiful Chukar Cherry finish. Joleté is a French phrase of “a happy gathering,” and this Walla Walla Valley Cab from an oft-overlooked North Willamette Valley Pinot Noir producer will put you in a happy place.
