This Merlot carries more of an Old World approach with a food-friendly structure as the profile of red cherry, red currant and plum is joined by a hint of Cabernet Franc, which brings pleasing dried herb and green bell pepper accents. Adequate tannins and a savory note of black olive adds to its pleasing structure and finish. This Washington Merlot, which made Wine Spectator’s 100 Top Values list for 2019 in the “Elegant Reds” category, is ideal with Pasta Puttanesca.
