The DeWitt family of Dumas Station Wines owns Breezy Slope, a lofty and cooler site near Milton-Freewater, Ore., and Jason Fox and Todd Bernave struck gold with this pink produced from the Dijon clone 115 Pinot Noir vines they’ve been working with since 2013. Pulled in on Sept. 7 at 23 Brix and left on the skins for 12 hours, it offers bright cherry aromas joined by fresh strawberries and rose petal. The charming flavor profile of Rainier cherry and pink strawberry lead out with watermelon and lime. This earned a gold medal at the 2019 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition, a scholarship fundraiser for Fox’s alma mater as a winemaker — Walla Walla Community College. And purchase of this wine will help support the Blue Mountain Action Council Food Bank system.
