Abacela 2019 Estate Private Selection Albariño, Umpqua Valley, $26
By Great Northwest Wine on June 17, 2020

The Pacific Northwest’s leading producers of Albariño also craft another version for tasting room visitors and wine club members, and it offers a different angle on Abacela’s flagship white wine. First, there’s a single-block reserve approach to the viticulture and harvest, and then 20% of that pull spends eight days in neutral American oak. That influence of wood is minute. In addition to the vibrancy that’s inherent to this Spanish grape, it will also appeal to those who enjoy a brisk white Bordeaux. Aromas of fresh-cut celery, gooseberry, Limeade, starfruit and jicama are matched on the palate, which finishes with a blast of pomelo.
