Canvasback 2017 Grand Passage Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain, $85
By Great Northwest Wine on September 26, 2020

Walla Walla winemaker Brian Rudin pulls from rising star Quintessence Vineyard on Washington’s Red Mountain for the fourth vintage of this broadly shouldered young Cab that receives special attention in the form of 20 months in French oak, 86% of those barrels were new. Entincing aromas come in layers of cinnamon sugar and Bing cherry with vanilla, sweet herbs and touches of minerality. Blueberry, elderberry, pomegranate and sage make up the flavor profile which brings a juicy structure that’s capped by age-worthy tannins reminiscent of blackcurrant skins. Suggested pairings include a savory beef burger, with a recipe offered by Duckhorn.
