Leigh McMillan takes a delicious and fascinating angle with this four-barrel blend she names for the French expression for “workshop,” but there’s a great deal of finesse behind her approach which for the 2018 vintage is Cabernet Franc (72%) and backed by Petit Verdot and Syrah. Fans of this neighborhood winery in West Seattle benefit not only from McMillan’s enology education through Washington State University but also the relationship that she has with prized Yakima Valley vineyards such as Dineen and Two Mountain. Black cherry, baking spice and pleasing leafy aromas from the Franc are realized on the palate where Marionberry juice and nicely managed tannins create a superbly long finish. This earned a gold medal at the 2020 Washington State Wine Competition.
