Jeremy Santo and the Mercer clan only recently launched this Subsoil brand with nine offerings, but any of their programs that involve Horse Heaven Hills fruit from their vines seem destined for deliciousness. This simply named Red Blend is far from nondescript, thanks in large part to the influence of Syrah (41%) and Malbec (13%) that adds suppleness and depth to the base coat of dusty tannins from Merlot (40%). Fanciful aromas of blueberry cobbler and cherry cotton candy lead to a rich and mouth-coating structure that includes black cherry and chocolate malt. It’s a real crowd-pleaser capped by a velvety finish.
