Joshua and Cheryl West’s young Rhône house in downtown Walla Walla continues to offer at approachable price points, particularly with its overall production at just north of 2,000 cases. Their even blend of Mourvèdre and Syrah from Yellow Bird Vineyard is a remarkable example loaded with texture and over-delivers for the outlay required. A dense nose of dusty black fruit bring in a sense of squid ink, anise and gamy earthiness. Inside, it’s big, fruity and backed by sandy tannins, elderberry, blackcurrant and blueberry juice. It’s no wonder the first two vintages of Cosmic Reflection have been about as well received as E7’s acclaimed Yellow Bird Grenache program.
