Maryhill Winery 2019 Otis Vineyard Proprietor’s Reserve Albariño, Columbia Valley, $24

The Tudor family in Washington’s Yakima Valley continues to honor the legacy of Otis Harlan with the work at this historic vineyard near Grandview. The versatility of this site, where Harlan established Cabernet Sauvignon in 1957. It garnered the attention of the late David Lake, and the Tudors acquired the vineyard in 2013. Their growing relationship with Maryhill has made winemaker Richard Batchelor the largest producer of Albariño in the Northwest, and the Kiwi shines again with this scintillating white grape native to Spain. Fresh nose of nectarine, lemon trees, and honey-scented sea air. Bracing burst of sliced lemon and honeydew with a saline finish. The bright minerality and zesty citrus are a winning combination. Enjoy with ceviche. It merited a gold medal last fall at the 2020 Great Northwest Invitational Wine Competition, a judging staged on behalf of some of the Northwest’s leading wine buyers, merchants, sommeliers and writers.
