Canoe Ridge Vineyard 2019 Canyon Vineyard Ranch Limited Edition Cinsaut Rosé, Columbia Valley, $22

Along his path to this Precept brand, Haydn Mouat spent nearly a decade of working at Seven Hills Winery – home to one of the Northwest’s most delicious examples of dry rosé. Perhaps the McClellan family’s example served as an inspiration for this lightly colored, complex and bright example. Rather than pulling from the namesake vineyard or another estate site in the Horse Heaven Hills, he sourced this snapshot of Rhône from Precept’s Canyon Vineyard Ranch in the Yakima Valley near Prosser for a rosé that’s exclusive to the Walla Walla tasting room. Inviting aromas of peach taffy, tropicality and dusty minerality lead to a pleasing mouth feel that’s rounded at the midpoint before its vivid finish. While prior vintages of this could be categorized as “off-dry,” this is nicely brisk in its approach.
