Rudy Marchesi’s 200-acre site west of Portland in Forest Grove, which ranks as one of the Pacific Northwest’s icons to Biodynamic farming, will celebrate its 40th birthday next year, and this reserve-style Pinot Noir is a blend of Pommard and Wädenswil clones from the planting’s oldest block. This Demeter-certified bottling of 10 barrels opens with aromas of cherry cola, Indian spices, fresh tobacco and crushed brick. Stephen Webber’s winemaking and deft touch with tannin management creates a pleasing, fruit-forward structure that hits on black cherry, boysenberry and elderberry before a final push of plum juice.
