Novelty Hill Winery 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $26

By on March 9, 2021

The flagship wine Mike Januik produces for Tom Alberg is that Cab that’s crafted using Alberg’s Stillwater Creek Vineyard on the Royal Slope as the foundation, and there are special touches from Ciel du Cheval (Red Mountain) and Weinbau (Wahluke Slope) that take it to the next level. The barrel program of 40% new oak for 21 months provides enticing accents of light toast that doesn’t distract from the notes of cassis, black cherry and rose petal. A solid core of tannins plays nicely with finishing flavors of Bing cherry and more red currant.
