Dick and Wendy Shaw’s namesake site along the western shoulders of Red Mountain produced the top wine of Wine Press Northwest’s 2019 Platinum Judging — a Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2015 vintage. Here, the Legends of Washington Wine Hall of Fame inductees kept some of that prized Cab for their own wine project and tasting room in Walla Walla, and they named it after their fathers. Fidelitas winemaker Mitch Venohr crafts their wines, and his years of working with Red Mountain fruit is on display here. Inviting aromas of dark cherry, blueberry and vanilla include light toast and rose petal. There’s richness to the entry of cherry and vanilla bean, and the tannins are shaped into a Cab of finesse rather than muscle, allowing for full enjoyment of a deliciously juicy Cherries Jubilee finish.
