Angela Vineyards 2017 Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton, $38
Antony Beck recruited Alban Debeaulieu to spark this young project near Carlton, Ore., and his first vintage had led to a juicy and approachable Pinot Noir that’s a delicious flagship bottling. Debeaulieu’s background of time spent at Domaine Drouhin, White Rose Estate, Chapter 24, 00 Wines and Alit serves him well with the Beck family’s two regenerative, organically farmed sites. A delicate hand with the oak, less than a year in neutral French barrels, helps explain the aromatic profile of boysenberry and Bing cherry with Douglas fir tips tea, lime oil and dried herbs. The structure is approachable, fruity and lithe as boysenberry and cherry skins give way in the finish to blueberry juice.
