Dick and Larry Olsen were feted as the honorary growers during the 2014 Auction of Washington Wines, nearly then 25 years after they established their vineyard northeast of Prosser, and Dusted Valley has made it the centerpiece of its Chardonnay program — as have several other acclaimed wineries. Two clones factor into this bottling, 96 and the California-developed Wente. And the remarkable complexity surrounding this wine can begin to be explained with the four distinct approaches to fermentation — neutral French oak (51%), concrete egg (23%), new French oak (15%) and stainless steel. Aromas of lemon chiffon, marzipan, pillow mint and flannel lead to fruit-driven flavors of Asian pear and lemon curd within a marvelous mouthfeel and backed by a juicy finish with lingering lemon oil. Suggested pairings include Clam and Leek Linguini, and this is one of the four DVV wines handled by famed New York distributor Dreyfus, Ashby & Co.
