The Burger family established the Rainbow Block for its Pinot Gris program in 1985, just two years after Yamhill Valley Vineyards became the second vineyard in what would become the McMinnville American Viticultural Area two decades later. In 2019, winemaker Ariel Eberle brought in the Pinot Gris on Sept. 27 and subsequently directed all of this juice into stainless steel tanks. It presents itself as “Oregon” in style with its focus on citrus and orchard fruit akin to Bosc pear, Golden Delicious apple and dusty lemon. A pleasing mouthfeel and combination of lime juice and pear skin makes for a nicely balanced and bright drink.
