Among the bromides at Dusted Valley Vintners is “Life is too short to stain your teeth on bad wine.” That’s a doctor’s order courtesy of co-owner/winemaker Chad Johnson’s dad — Dr. Dan, a dentist. In fact, they’ve dubbed their wine club “The Stained Tooth Society.” One of Washington state’s hottest sites, StoneTree Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, has long played a role in the Stained Tooth Syrah, and the winery’s Stoney Vine Vineyard in The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater as well as another Walla Walla Valley planting, Breezy Slope, contributed to this, too. Its remarkably fruity nose of Bing cherry and blueberry includes some light toast and marshmallow. Inside, there’s a nice bit of crunchiness to the structure thanks to The Rocks fruit that’s surrounded by blackcurrant, elderberry, anise and a finishing touch of minerality.
