An early marker of Marcus Rafanelli’s first vintage making wine for the Clubb family, this rosé displays some of the skill that the erstwhile instructor at Walla Walla Community College developed at William Church in Woodinville. At L’Ecole brought in the lot from this storied site on Sept. 8 at nearly 25 Brix, a few days ahead of the wildfire smoke. Produced in a Provencal appearance, it follows up with brilliant notes of garden-fresh golden raspberry, strawberry shortcake, a strand of cotton candy and hibiscus. There’s ripeness of fruit yet no sweetness is found within the delicious structure, a complete package that ranks among the best examples of Northwest rosé from 2020.
