In 2006, McMinnville grower/vintner Wayne Bailey established the Aspen Block — named after his youngest daughter — using 5 acres of Pinot Gris. Eight year later, he transition half of it to four clones of Chardonnay, 75, 76, 95 and 548. Aside from a nice note of shortcake, there’s little sign in the nose of the eight months in mature oak barrels. Instead, it’s filled with lemon curd, orange peel and seashells. The approach to the palate is pleasing and refreshing with a theme of starfruit and honeydew melon, backed by navel orange pith in the finish. Suggested pairings include grilled pork or chicken.
