This gorgeous Pinot Noir from Luisa Ponzi is among the first wines to be bottled with the American Viticultural Area “Laurelwood District” on the bottle, and this melange of certified sustainable plantings should be viewed as a talisman of the appellation. Fruit from her family’s Aurora, Avellana and Madrona plantings blended with Gemini, Paloma, Sufi and rising star Alloro vineyards and spent 14 months in a French oak program with 20% of the barrels being new. The focus is on the fruit, starting with notes of light plum, Bing cherry and Marionberry, yet there is a pinch of ground cinnamon. A rich and delicious structure picks up cola and a lick of chocolate prior to the long path of plum and cherry juice that’s both tasty and satisfying.
