A product of the debut vintage for Tyler Williams as head winemaker for his family’s historic project, Cuvée Artemisia celebrates the indigenous sagebrush on Red Mountain called Artemisia tridentata. It’s a combination of white estate grapes that are based on Rhône varieties Roussanne (59%) and Viognier (18%) with a worthy contribution from Chenin Blanc (23%) — a variety that’s long been a star for Kiona. The blend of ferments in clay amphora (11%) and oak creates charming facets that range from orange, peach, chalk and white flowers for a fun and bright summer picnic wine. It merited a gold medal at the 2021 Cascadia International Wine Competition.
