One of the Northwest’s top second-generation winemakers, Andrew Januik readily credits the influence of his father, Mike, and Novelty Hill’s Scott Moeller on his young program. This bottling of Cabernet Sauvignon represents Januik’s fifth vintage from the Champoux family’s 5-acre Lady Hawk block. The planting is dedicated to Cab, and no other producers receive access to Paul and Judy Champoux’s parcel. There’s richness, spiciness and herbaceousness to the nose of cassis, cola and horehound. Its pleasing texture is filled with cherry juice, backed by cherry-skin tannins and rides out in a sense of the Horse Heaven Hills with a trail of dusty herbs. Enjoy with a slab of smoked ribs basted in the sauce recommended by Mike, a recipe credited to Janeyce Michel-Cupito and one that can be easily blended at home.
