Previous vintages of this Italian-inspired project launched by erstwhile restaurateur Peter Dow have also included Sangiovese from Alder Ridge and Boushey vineyards, but this is 100% from historic Red Willow Vineyard near the foothills of Mount Adams. That’s natural considering that Dow is credited with lobbying vineyard owner Mike Sauer to be the first in Washington state to plant Nebbiolo at Red Willow. Jon Zimmerman in Walla Walla oversees Cavatappi, so there’s a delicious consistency to all of the wines under this brand belonging to Seattle-based Precept. Named for one of Dow’s daughters, this 100% Sangiovese offers notes of Chukar Cherry, boysenberry, celery leaf, fresh cedar, cinnamon and toast. There’s richness on the entry, a supple midpalate and the zippy food-friendly finish that one hopes for from Sangiovese. These wines are available via Total Wine & More.
